The White-breasted Kingfisher also known as the White-throated Kingfisher is a common sight near wetlands in Sri Lanka. The throat areas of the kingfisher is white and furry. This species of Kingfisher is not at all shy and does not get disturbed by human activities. It is promiscuous in its feeding habits and is known to feed on many small animals, like worms and other wriggly creatures. The White-breasted Kingfisher can be seen perched on electricity wires and streetlamps in an almost-sedated posture, and is not easily ruffled. The range of this kingfisher goes from the Middle East to Eastern Asia, including the Indian subcontinent.
