Jerdon’s Leafbird

Scientific Name: Chloropsis jerdoni

IUCN Status: Least Concern

A vibrant emerald green bird that is difficult to spot due to its camouflaging green plumage. This lush green bird appears like a leaf from a distance. The male of the species has a blue patch on the throat, bordered by a black area, while the female has a light blue throat in the absence of a black border. Jerdon’s leafbird lives in lowland vegetations, forest covered hills, on open wooded areas, and within ecotones of forests. Of note, mixed species flocks are found during flowering and fruiting time of trees. The song of this species is a mix of rough squeaks, buzzing sounds, whistling melodies and mimicking of sounds from other species.
