Scientific Name: Treron bicinctus
IUCN Status: Least Concern
This is a large-in-size pigeon that lives in forest areas of Sri Lanka, with the broader range including South and South East Asia. This species of pigeon has a patch of orange on the breast with a pink hued upper margin. The nape is colored in juniper-berry blue. The female is washed in green color with a more subdued grey-blue nape.
This pigeon species tends to feed in groups inside canopies of forest vegetation with fruits serving as the main source of nutrition. The song of the Orange-breasted Green-Pigeon is an oddity of sorts – with an elevating note followed by nasal passage of loosely articulated sounds, which repeat in low amplitudes.
The Sri Lankan population (Treron bicinctus leggei) is known for a shorter wingspan and but is mostly identical to the continental members.
In E-Bird there are more than 1500 images of this species of pigeon.
