Yellow-wattled Lapwing

Scientific Name: Vanellus malabaricus

IUCN Status: Least Concern

A species of Lapwing with yellow wattles on the face and a black band or brow on the top of the eye. The crest areas are mottled as is the upper plumage. The breast is mild brown and the belly areas are colored in brilliant white. The yellow-wattled lapwing is found mostly in dry areas of the country where water sources are scarce. The call of the Yellow-wattled Lapwing is milder and meeker than other species of lapwing.

The Yellow-wattled Lapwing is found in Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, but rarely in other parts of South Asia, especially the western regions.
