Little ringed plover

Scientific name: Charadrius dubius

IUCN Status: Least Concern

A small wading plover with a bright yellow ring around the eye, seen on sandbanks of rivers and on peripheries of water bodies, both freshwater and brackish. The little ringed plover breeds on rocky substrates surrounding water ways. A black neckband and a white patch on the forehead are conspicuous factors that help in the identification of the bird species. The bill of the Little Ringed Plover is short and slender, toned in black with a tinge of orange. The upper plumage of the bird is cinnamon brown and the underparts are a blemish-free white. The feet are a dull pink and the toes are connected by webbings. The little ringed plover can be identified from the ringed plover by the bright yellow-ringed perimeter of the eye, the pinkish color of the legs and the patterns on the head region.
