Hanuman Plover

Hanuman Plover is a newly identified shorebird that has captured the ornithologists’ attention in Sri Lanka in the recent past. A species that was previously known as the Kentish Plover that is now separated by genetics and morphology, to be a new species. The Hanuman Plover has grey upper parts and white underparts, and is named after the monkey god of the epic Ramayana. The short tapering beak of the bird is colored in dark black, with an incomplete white collar surrounding the neck.
