Scientific Name: Oriolus xanthornus
IUCN Status: Least Concern
A reddish-rose beak, a black head and breast and a largely yellow appearance fashion the external features of the Yellow-hooded Oreole. A ubiquitous sighting in rural and urban neighborhoods, the song of this conspicuous species is high pitched, floating on air like flute music, while the call has an inbuilt nasality in expression.
The range of the Yellow-hooded Oreole spans South and South-east Asia, while Sumatra and Borneo too possess populations of this songbird. Found in pairs, they can be seen hopping from tree to tree, and are widespread in both the wet and dry zones of Sri Lanka.
